What Is ‘Maintenance Care’ and Why Should it Matter to Me?
May 29, 2020
How often do you check your oil or the tire pressure in your vehicle? Some are vigilant about it, checking once a week and some even more frequently. But like most of us who are busy, we might get our cars maintenanced every three to five thousand miles unless there is a problem. Many simply put the idea of preventative maintenance out of mind until there is an issue. They often do nothing until that annoying dashboard light comes on to alert a problem, or worse, they don’t think much about it until the vehicle starts showing literal signs of a breakdown.
Like our cars, our bodies have ‘dashboard lights’ too. If we ignore the signs of lower back pain or persisting neck and shoulder pain, or we just “tough it out” on knees that begin to ache, the consequences can be nothing short of a breakdown in our joints and sometimes the damage can be significant.
This is why Chattanooga Integrated Medicine Center has built programs designed to provide our patients regular maintenance care for the prevention of joint pain. Prevention is one of the areas few of us think about when all is going well, but ignoring the signs of trouble often means bigger problems on the horizon.
A recent study1 showed that chiropractic patients had fewer days with bothersome low back pain when they began receiving care at regular, pre-planned intervals – whether or not they had prior symptoms – compared to those who received treatment only when back pain occurred.
Back pain though is just the beginning. We treat patients proactively to help them, not only avoid pain in the future, but to avoid long term damage and even surgery. Don’t wait until your dashboard light comes on to do something about your joint health!
