Regenerative Medicine Study Shows Big Promise for those with Osteoarthritis
September 4, 2020
Here at Chattanooga Integrated Medicine Center, we use Regenerative Medicine to treat knee pain, including those suffering from osteoarthritis (OA) with wonderful results. Further encouragement about how this treatment is helping so many has recently been strengthened by a study conducted back in March 2020.
According to the study, a small clinical trial has shown that a single injection of donated umbilical cord or the amniotic tissue and fluid stem cells derived from a patient’s own body fat can significantly reduce osteoarthritis knee pain for up to a year with no serious side effects, according to findings published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine.1
“Eighty-eight percent of subjects responded greater than placebo at one year and reported a median 87% improvement in pain, stiffness and function,” said William Cimino, PhD, CEO of GID BIO, which funded the study.
The data signifies real science and a breakthrough in regenerative medicine. Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent joint disease in the United States, affecting nearly 1 in 5 Americans aged 45 years and older.
