Optimizing Your Stem Cell Therapy Recovery
December 6, 2024
At Chattanooga Non-Surgical Orthopedics (CNSO), we understand the importance of proper recovery after stem cell therapy. Following a carefully designed plan can significantly improve your results and get you back to the activities you love faster.
Gentle Movement is Key in Early Stages (Weeks 1-4):
- Focus on pain management: During the first few days, you may experience some inflammation and pain. This is a normal response as your body begins the healing process. We’ll provide you with therapy instructions and other options to manage any mild discomfort.
- Gentle Techniques Promote Healing: We’ll work with you to incorporate techniques like myofascial release and kinesiology taping to promote blood flow and reduce inflammation. Gentle stretching, range of motion (ROM) exercises, and isometrics can also be beneficial in this early stage.
- Low-Impact Cardio Gets You Moving: Activities like stationary bike, elliptical trainer, and swimming are excellent options to maintain fitness without stressing the treated area.
Gradual Progression Towards Activity (Weeks 4-8):
As your body heals, we’ll gradually increase your activity level. This may include:
- Core strengthening: Exercises like our clinical exercise program will help stabilize your joints and improve overall function.
- Light Weights: We’ll introduce light weights (50-75% of pre-injection levels) to gradually rebuild strength.
- Physical Therapy: Our staff will create a personalized program to restore normal biomechanics in the treated area and surrounding structures. This may involve gait/grip strengthening, different types of myofascial release, and specific home exercises.
Important Considerations for Optimal Results:
- Listen to Your Body: It’s crucial to avoid forceful rotations, manual manipulation, and heavy lifting for the first six weeks. NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are also discouraged during this time as they can hinder the healing process. Ultrasound, STIM, and TENS units are not recommended for therapy during this initial phase.
- Communication is Key: We encourage open communication throughout your recovery. Contact us with any questions they may have.
- Individualized Care: Every case is unique. We understand that side effects can vary, and some patients may experience more pain than others. Please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Hall if you have any concerns.
