How Does Decompression Work?
Learn about how Drug-Free, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression, Low Level Laser, and PRP can solve many of your Orthopedic problems at Chattanooga Non-Surgical Orthopedics.
Spinal Decompression
Whether you have acute or chronic spinal, neck, or low back pain, decompression therapy can solve many of the pain issues people face.
With the pull and release of decompression, the disc is given an opportunity to alternatively flush out toxins and absorb new nutrients to regenerate collagen (what the disc is made of). Decompression also creates a vacuum in the disc to suck the nucleus back in, allowing for healing of the disc. Often times, PRP is used to regenerate this avascular region. Unlike common Low Back surgeries, Decompression regenerates and restores the disc without the added side effects and downtime of surgery.
What is Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy?
Spinal decompression with Cox® Technic is a non-surgical answer for disc related syndromes of your lumbar or cervical spine that utilizes a specialized table with controlled tension that gently stretches the spine, taking the pressure off the discs and joints, enhancing the natural healing process.
Spinal Decompression has been medically proven to reduce pain and alleviate symptoms and conditions related to:
FACTS OF LIFE
- Surgery is Painful, Risky, and often times Unnecessary. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is Safe and Painless
- Spinal Decompression allows most people to work after the treatment.
- Spinal Surgery causes lost time at work.
- Steroid Epidural Injections can cause nerve damage. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression does not damage the nerves.
- Dangerous drugs such as NSAIDS destroy cartilage. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression rebuilds cartilage.
The Spinal Decompression Cox® Table
A Spinal Decompression Cox® Table is designed to alleviate the underlying problems that cause the pain and facilitate the natural healing of spinal discs. With precise and painless controlled tension, the specific disc segment is gently distracted to reduce the pressure inside.
The Cox® Table comfortably and accurately increases intersegmental disc space, providing non-surgical decompression of discs. Tears in the disc annulus can be repaired, with the addition of PRP, allowing sufficient fluids and nutrients to be re-introduced into the nucleus to reverse the disc degeneration, bulging discs, and collapse resulting from an injury. Rehydration of the disc nucleus will restore disc height, which relieves the pressure on inflamed facet joints.
It is a medical fact that damaged discs seldom heal independently, as the discs are constantly under pressure. The Cox® Decompression Table uses clinically proven principles to reduce the pressure inside the discs. Decompression promotes the transfer of fluids, nutrients, and oxygen back inside the discs and results in the retraction of bulging or herniated discs, providing relief of nerve pressure and pain.
According to recent clinical trials, utilizing MRI, pre, and post-treatment on a similar table, disc herniations were reduced by 10% to 90%. Patching and healing of the annulus were also evident.
A typical treatment consists of a predetermined recommended time on the Cox® 8 flexion-distraction table. All treatments are administered with the patient fully clothed. The patient is positioned on the table and comfortably secured to a fixed part of the table. The specific disc segment is gently distracted to reduce the pressure inside of the disc. The treatment is comfortable, and some patients fall asleep.
At the conclusion of the treatment series, when the disc injury has been corrected, patients are given strengthening Clinical Exercises to avoid repeat injury. After only a few weeks of treatment, research has shown amazing results in relieving the debilitating pain caused by degenerative, bulging, herniated, or ruptured discs, as well as sciatica, posterior facet syndrome, spinal stenosis, and many, failed back surgery cases. Most patients are able to return to normal levels of activity or recreation in just a few weeks’ time.

Cox® Technic
Cox® Technic is non-surgical, doctor-controlled, hands-on spinal manipulation performed with the patient lying on The Cox® Table, our proprietary, specially designed chiropractic instrument. This table permits the effective administration of flexion-distraction and decompression adjustment and manipulation. Well-researched and documented, flexion-distraction and decompression helps relieve spinal pain and return patients to their desired quality of life by dropping intradiscal pressure to as low as -192mm Hg widening the spinal canal foraminal area by 28% reducing pressure on the spinal nerves returning motion to the spinal joints. The goal of Cox® Technic is to help the spinal pain patient go from "pain" to "no pain" as quickly as possible following the "rule of 50%" which governs the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management.
