COVID and Chiropractic: Less Stress through Therapy May have Benefits
August 21, 2020
The Coronavirus pandemic has obviously drawn attention to the importance of the immune system for health and wellness. As a wellness provider here at Chattanooga Integrated Medicine Center, the connection between alternative therapies, immune system response and overall wellness strengthening as it relates to COVID outcomes greatly interests us. One potential link to better Coronavirus outcomes and immunities may be your level of mental and emotional stress.
This past March, the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) issued an evidence-based report regarding immune function, the current body of evidence in chiropractic, and spinal manipulation research. Though there are currently no recognized cures in conventional medicine or any solidly proven alternative health approaches to combat COVID-19, no vaccines, and no known natural remedies, there is anecdotal evidence that suggests there may be significant benefits to immunity as a result of lowered stress as a result of wellness therapies. However, much more research and funding for chiropractic is needed to find scientific and widely evidence based proof.
Dr. Stephen Welsh, ICA President stated,
“As an essential health care provider, the chiropractor is in a unique position to assist their patients during this time of heightened stress. It is well established that extended levels of stress can adversely affect the immune system. Although there are no clinical trials to substantiate a direct causal relationship between the chiropractic adjustment and increased protection from the COVID-19 virus, there is a growing body of evidence that there is a relationship between the nervous system and the immune system.”
Chattanooga Integrated Medicine Center has long worked on the premise that the nervous system and immune system are connected as a part of every individual’s mental, structural, and chemical makeup. While we continue to follow research to keep you informed, you can take action now to work toward getting healthier. Call us today for an appointment!
